Lives Like Skyscrapers is a band based in Ontario, Ottawa, Canada made up of seven members and taking influences from multiple genres such as indie rock, shoegaze, and folk. Their music is unique and rich with numerous instruments. The band consists of Ryan Neeb as the lead singer-songwriter, Derek Evers on the guitars, Scott Addams on the bass, Carl Welch as the drummer, Ryan Hough as a violinist and guitarist, Rob Snasdell-Taylor as a multi-instrumentalist and Brent Smith on the banjo. The band’s debut album, At Dawn We Said Goodnight,  contains songs recorded for over two years. 

The first track, Stepping Out, is a beautiful song filled with vibrant sounds and soothing tunes. The song also takes influence from americana and chamber pop, which is apparent from the orchestral instruments such as the strings, keys, and violin. The track starts with a drum intro and the instruments, including clean electric and acoustic guitars in the foreground, small hints of synth, and strings in the background, solidified by the bass and drums. The song emphasizes the melody of the instruments, hooking listeners in with the electric guitar licks and the straightforward explosive acoustic guitar and banjo rhythm backed up by the percussion. As the song nears its end, the tempo slows down and gradually picks up leading to a satisfying conclusion. Overall, the song effectively uses many instruments layered on each other and detailed to create a unique soundscape that feels like a slow coming-of-age as you step out toward life.
