What’s the story behind your latest song/album?
After being woken one night many years ago by a clear, yet invisible voice repeating the words “Saint David”, I had two questions – what could this mean, and what should I do about it? I was at a spiritual crossroads at the time having rediscovered my childhood faith, and with St. David being the patron saint of Wales, I thought a trip to their beautiful coastal city of St. Davids might help shed some light. My song ‘St. David’ reflects on my experiences during this pilgrimage, where I was accompanied by my sister, who took the photo used for the release artwork.

Who or what has been inspiring your music lately?
One incredible artist who’s been inspiring my music recently is ‘Hazlett’, who describes himself as “one heck of an emotional, stubborn, simple, romantic guy, who would rather help people sort out their own life, instead of his own”. His music is calming, reflective, atmospheric and addictive! I’d really recommend checking out his folk infused sound, especially both ‘Goodbye to the Valley Low’ EPs.
How do you handle creative blocks or self-doubt?
I find overthinking and trying too hard causes my creative blocks. Some of my songs have emerged at the most unexpected of times, so it’s just been a case of going with the flow and recording the melodies or words however I can. It also helps when I have a clear purpose, story or message behind a song, which gives my writing direction and focus. As for self doubt, I’ve had my fair share of this over the years, and perhaps it can help to drive progress to an extent, but ultimately if I’m happy with what I’ve written and have stayed true to my creative self, that’s the most important thing – oh and not comparing myself to other artists, as we’re all unique and have our own story to tell!
Can you share a memorable or unexpected moment from a live performance?
One memorable moment from a live performance was when myself and the band were invited to play my wheelchair basketball inspired track ‘GB 365’ on channel 4’s ‘The Superhumans Show’ in the build up to the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. To our surprise, we were accompanied by two Brazilian dancers dressed in samba costumes, and the bassist kept getting whacked in the face by feathers!
What’s next for you—any exciting projects or goals on the horizon?
Looking ahead, I’m aiming to finish recording my forth EP this year, which will remain true to my indie folk roots, and include some uplifting, foot stomping, acoustically driven tunes! I’d also like to start playing live more, with longer term goals of performing at some folk festivals and in the acoustic tent a Glastonbury one day!
