deathsleep, those absolute legends from Bend, Oregon, have joined forces with pop culture wild man Zach Holmes (aka Zackass of the Jackass franchise) for a track called “Jealousy featuring Zach Holmes,” a no-holds-barred mashup with its emotional power and straight-up rock fury.
Holmes is making his first real splash in professional music, but he’s been a die-hard fan of this stuff forever, and specifically of deathsleep’s previous work like Irish Goodbye. He steps up to the mic not as an outsider, but as a kindred spirit, and the result is explosive. His vocals pack that same wild, go-for-broke energy that made him famous for his insane stunts, bringing serious Iggy Pop chaos to the table. He completely owns his moment, going toe-to-toe with deathsleep’s powerhouse frontman, Gareth Lastinger.
But a vocal powerhouse means nothing if you don’t have the band to match it, right? Good thing deathsleep’s got their act together. Gareth Lastinger, Ben Rosett, and Kevin J Dill lay down this wicked foundation of riffs that somehow walks the line between total mayhem and tight control. Ben Rosett produced this beast with Kevin J Dill and Scott Baber at the legendary Somni Studios in Bend, and man, they nailed it.
This track doesn’t mess around. It throws you straight into the deep end of what jealousy really feels like. The band took their own run-ins with that green-eyed monster and channeled all that ugly energy into something you can’t help but bang your head to. When they hit the studio, Lastinger and Holmes knocked out their vocal takes with the kind of speed and confidence that’ll make your jaw drop.
“Jealousy” boldly bridges the gap between pop culture notoriety and post-hardcore credibility, creating something that feels both groundbreaking and authentically gritty. For deathsleep, it’s a powerful precursor to their upcoming seven-song album, Death Is A Dream, and for Zach Holmes, it’s a blistering “sweet sixteen” coming-of-age party in a genre he loves.
